Medical Director for the Buffalo Bills, Dr. Leslie J. (Les) Bisson and Team Physician, Dr. Marc S. Fineberg, played critical roles in saving #3 Damar Hamlin’s life when the Bills’ Safety collapsed on the field during the January 2, 2023, game against the Cincinnati Bengals. During this highly engaging webinar, Drs. Bisson and Fineberg will review the life-saving measures that are used in these situations and discuss the UB Department of Orthopaedics and UBMD Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine’s initiative to get coaches, athletes, parents, and more educated in CPR and AED use and make Western New York the safest place to play sports.

Dr. Leslie J. Bisson, MD, as the June A. and Eugene R. Mindell, MD Professor and Chair of the Department of Orthopaedics and Medical Director for the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres, has had the privilege of working with outstanding physicians, athletic trainers, and other health care workers. Excellent health care is a team effort, regardless of whether it is delivered in an office, operating room, on a field or in a rink, and can be achieved by uniting a prepared group of people around shared goals. Dr. Bisson is looking forward to helping the audience learn how we can take lessons learned from the field and further expand excellent care to improve the health and safety of all members of our community. 

Dr. Marc S. Fineberg, MD, FAAOS, as Associate Professor of Clinical Orthopaedics and Chief of Sports Medicine, is dedicated to the delivery of scientifically supported and innovative treatments for musculoskeletal problems associated with an active lifestyle. He joined UBMD Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine in 1999 and currently serves as Team Physician for the Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres, UB and Hilbert College Athletics. 

Dr. Fineberg's practice is located at both our Amherst and Orchard Park New York locations and includes office-based evaluations, surgery, and sports team care. He specializes in arthroscopic knee and shoulder reconstruction and advanced techniques for major tendon and ligament repairs. He is active in all the orthopaedic departments’ educational activities such as lecturing, journal clubs, research, office role modeling, training in surgical techniques, course organization, and community outreach.
