The UB Choir and the UB Chorus, conducted by Harold Rosenbaum, will perform favorites by such composers as Mozart and Bach at 8 p.m. on Dec. 7 in Slee Concert Hall on the North Campus.

The UB Contemporary Ensemble, directed by Jonathan Golove, (Dec. 2), Saxophone Ensemble, conducted by Harry Fackelman (Dec. 3), Jazz Ensemble, directed by Sam Falzone (Dec. 3) and Concert Band, conducted by Jon Nelson (Dec. 6) will perform works ranging from the Baroque to swing jazz to contemporary.

The UB Symphony, conducted by Magnus Martensson, and the UB Chorus will combine their talents for a performance of "Schicksalslied" by Johannes Brahms Dec. 5. The symphony will join the choir and chorus in their Dec. 7 concert.

The UB Opera/Music Theater Workshop will present "Mozart in the Middle," a serio-comic look at Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's life and work, at 8 p.m. Dec. 8 and Dec. 9 in the Black Box Theatre in the Center for the Arts on the North Campus.

This presentation of the complete, though severely abridged, series of Mozart operas will feature scenes, plot summaries, psychoanalytic interpretation-why was Mozart obsessed by the themes of betrayal, sexual infidelity and flawed father figures?-that will update, backdate and include a possible visit by the composer himself. All of the dialogue is taken from actual letters translated from the original German by Emily Anderson.

The UB Opera/Music Theater Workshop is directed by Dora Ohrenstein.

Single tickets for the December concert series range in price from $5 to $12. Most student ensemble concerts are free of charge. For the more expensive concerts, discounts are available for seniors, students and faculty/staff/alumni. Tickets may be obtained in the Slee Hall box office Monday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m., in the UB Center for the Arts box office Tuesday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m. or at all TicketMaster outlets.

The full concert schedule is available on the Slee Concert Hall Web site at http://www.slee.buffalo.edu.
