Gustave P. Milkey, 81, associate clinical professor of surgery

A memorial service was held Oct. 9, in Kenmore United Methodist Church for Gustave P. Milkey, a retired surgeon who had served as an associate clinical professor of surgery at UB. Milkey, 81, died Oct. 6 in Kenmore Mercy Hospital after a long illness.

A 1939 graduate of Syracuse University, Milkey received his doctor of medicine degree in 1943 from the College of Medicine at Syracuse, then interned at Buffalo General Hospital. He served as a captain in the Army Medical Corps from 1944-46, when he returned to Buffalo, where he served as resident surgeon at Millard Fillmore Hospital and E.J. Meyer Memorial Hospital. He opened his surgical practice in 1950 and retired in 1987.

A member of numerous medical organizations, he was certified by the American Board of Surgery and was a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

Survivors include his wife, Janet; a daughter, Susan Elaine Cronin of Syracuse; a son, Edward G. of Des Moines, Iowa.; two sisters, Elaine Gregory of Wildwood, Fla., and Ruth Austin of Montague, Mass., and four grandchildren.
