The Buffalo and Fort Erie Public Bridge Authority will bathe the Peace Bridge in blue-and-white lights from 8 p.m. today until 2 a.m. tomorrow to salute the inauguration of Satish K Tripathi as UB’s 15th president and in recognition of Inauguration Week.

Tripathi’s investiture will take place at 3 p.m. Sept. 23 in the Center for the Arts, North Campus. Faculty and staff interested in attending the investiture should RSVP as soon as possible.

Seeing UB’s school colors in bright lights spanning the boundary between two countries will have special significance to many UB faculty, staff and students, including Canadian native Stephen C. Dunnett, professor and vice provost for international education.

“The Peace Bridge holds a special place in my heart,” Dunnett says. “When I came to UB for an admissions interview in 1964, I crossed the Peace Bridge for the first time in my life.

“Little did I know that one day I’d be working at UB and living ‘over the river,” as Canadians like to say when referring to the USA.”

The theme of Inauguration Week, “Local Impact, Global Reach,” focuses on changes brought about by UB scholars, researchers and educators that make the world a better place in which to live.

A broad range of inaugural events will emphasize the university’s excellence in research, education and service; its efforts to create a vibrant and healthy community; and the many ways in which its faculty, students and staff engage the Western New York and the world beyond.
