News and views for the UB community
Students marched from South Lake Village toward Capen Hall.
Gabriela Jimenez, a second-year master's student in the School of Social Work, is writing "We demand justice."
Donia Ahmed, a senior studying biomedical sciences, draws a figure representing Guillen, who disappeared on April 22 from Fort Hood Army base and whose remains were recently discovered.
Event organizer Anthony Vargas, a recent UB grad who's returning to campus for a master's program, said that “the world is getting too comfortable being comfortable with these situations.”
The students worked together to create a large heart chalk drawing on the sidewalk near the Student Union. It read: "Justice for Vanessa."
Participants at the event were (from left) Donia Ahmed, Jake Arnold, Anthony Vargas, Gabriela Jimenez, Chazz Robinson, Raul Babilonia, Max Asklar, Emily Brooks and Olivia Garcia. “Vanessa is someone’s daughter, cousin, friend," Garcia said. "I would hate to see my loved one being taken from me like that.”
