This photo op with Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott after the team's 39-34 win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Dec. 7 proved to be a "seven degrees of separation" moment for UB chemistry professor Emanuela Gionfriddo. Gionfriddo attended the game — her very first Bills game — at the suggestion of University of Texas at Arlington chemistry professor Kevin Schug, who was in Buffalo to give a seminar at UB. "Kevin mentioned, 'If the Bills win, we’ll go meet Sean McDermott at the Bills' fieldhouse after the game,'" Gionfriddo told UBNow. "After the game, we went to the fieldhouse, and after a bit Sean McDermott (who has been a close friend of Schug's since their college years at William & Mary) arrived. He was exceptionally kind, approachable and genuinely warm. He was especially happy to hear that I was from the University at Buffalo," Gionfriddo says. "Later, one of my colleagues at UB joked that, being from the University at Buffalo, that picture should belong on my CV!" Photo: Courtesy of Emanuela Gionfriddo
