Genco’s listening tour continues over the next 16 weeks

UB President Caroline Attardo Genco, PhD, will continue her listening tour this semester with scheduled on-campus discussions in schools and administrative units throughout the university.

Since beginning her tenure as UB’s 16th president, Genco has spent her first month meeting with faculty, students, staff, alumni and external partners to learn more about the university and the Western New York community.

Those conversations have laid the groundwork for the next phase of her listening tour, which begins this month with a series of visits to schools and administrative units across campuses.

“My priority in the weeks ahead is simple: listen, learn and get to know the people that make UB such a special place,” Genco said.

This next phase of the listening tour, referred to as “President 16 | 16 Stops in 16 Weeks,” begins with a visit to the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, followed by additional visits to schools and divisions throughout the semester.

The tour is an opportunity for Genco to build relationships with members of the UB community and gain a deeper understanding of the university she began leading in August. The objective is to hear directly from faculty, staff, students, alumni and community members about UB’s strengths, challenges, opportunities and aspirations.

The format of the on-campus listening sessions will vary from stop to stop, but in general, the visits will include an overview from deans or vice presidents, a tour of facilities and a demonstration or presentation showcasing the unit’s work. The visits will include discussions with faculty, staff, students and alumni.

The feedback shared during the listening tour will help shape UB’s priorities and direction for the future, as part of a planning process that will be announced to the campus soon.

“Before we determine where we’re going, we need a common understanding of where we are — the extraordinary work happening across UB, the challenges we are facing and the opportunities we see ahead.”
