Upon learning that Satish K. Tripathi, UB’s 15th president, would be stepping down next July, numerous UB stakeholders offered their best wishes and reflected on Tripathi’s achievements as president.
Among them was Jeremy “Jerry” M. Jacobs Jr., chair of UB Council, who expressed gratitude for Tripathi’s longstanding partnership with the Jacobs family, and for his innovative approach to guiding UB forward.
“For more than two decades, my family has had the privilege of working closely with President Satish Tripathi,” Jacobs said. “His thoughtful drive and visionary leadership have not only elevated the University at Buffalo’s stature but have propelled it confidently into the future. Satish’s legacy is one of progress, integrity and unwavering commitment to academic excellence — and my father and I are deeply grateful for the partnership and friendship we’ve shared.”

On behalf of the UB Foundation Board of Trustees and foundation staff, UBF chair Gregory Bauer, BS ’82, congratulated Tripathi on his “transformative presidential tenure.”
“For nearly 15 years, President Tripathi’s visionary leadership, integrity, stewardship and genuine human kindness have elevated the University at Buffalo into a premier public research university recognized for excellence nationally and around the world,” he said.
“We are grateful for his extraordinary service to UB and the UB Foundation, and I look forward to working with him throughout this academic year to realize our mission-driven priorities.”
SUNY Chancellor John B. King Jr. described Tripathi’s leadership as “extraordinary.”
SUNY Chancellor John B. King Jr. praised Tripathi for the indelible mark he has left on UB.
“My first official campus visit as SUNY Chancellor was to see President Satish Tripathi and the State University of New York at Buffalo community,” he recalled. “We spent the entire day touring the impressive academic institution, hearing faculty and students excitedly discuss their piece of UB.
“Each time I have returned to campus, I have been impressed by Satish’s success in cultivating a deep sense of community and devotion to both great teaching and building knowledge. There is a positive energy that radiates from Satish, and it has been his extraordinary leadership over the last 14 years that has brought the campus to new heights in academic and research excellence and student success.”

The SUNY Board of Trustees released a statement crediting Tripathi for his dedication to UB’s students and faculty.
“The State University of New York at Buffalo is the definition of academic excellence — not just here in Buffalo, but worldwide — and we are immensely thankful for President Satish Tripathi’s leadership, which has made this statement even more true today,” the trustees said.
“The university has everything to offer — courses taught by stellar faculty, an infrastructure to support innovative research as witnessed by its prominence in artificial intelligence for the public good, and a welcoming environment and resources that support our students.
“We thank Satish for working closely with Trustee Eunice Lewin and our entire board throughout his tenure, and we applaud him on a job well done.”
