James L. Jarvis Jr. has been named UB’s chief campus counsel, effective immediately.

The appointment of Jarvis, who previously served as senior counsel in the SUNY Office of General Counsel based at UB, came after a national search.

In his new role, he will head UB’s Office of General Counsel, which provides comprehensive legal services to support UB.

“With his wealth of institutional knowledge and his depth of expertise in labor relations and employment matters, student affairs and athletics, Jim emerged as the ideal candidate for this important university role,” said President Satish K. Tripathi.

Jarvis’ previous experience includes serving as director of labor relations and assistant corporation counsel for the city of Buffalo, and as an assistant corporation counsel for the city of Syracuse. He also held a federal court clerkship in the Northern District of New York, in Syracuse.

Jarvis earned both a BA in communication and a JD from UB.
