UB will recognize the scholarly, research and creative achievements of many of its outstanding students at the 13th Annual Celebration of Student Academic Excellence on April 20.

All UB faculty, staff and students are encouraged to attend the celebration, which will take place in the Center for the Arts, North Campus. Pre-ceremony refreshments will be served.

Celebration festivities include a highlight of the annual event: the Outstanding Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creativity Poster Display, which begins 1 p.m. in the Center for the Arts Atrium. Undergraduate students display their posters, outlining their research, scholarship and creative pursuits. The posters, which explain students’ research in visual form, enter a competition during which they are judged for their creativity, clarity and presentation.

The celebration ceremony, hosted by President Satish K. Tripathi and Provost Charles F. Zukoski, will begin at 3:30 p.m. in the Mainstage theater and will recognize an impressive array of undergraduate and graduate honorees for various UB, SUNY and national awards.

“UB is very proud of our outstanding students and their exceptional research, scholarship, creative work and engagement activities,” says Zukoski. “The annual Celebration of Student Academic Excellence provides UB with an important opportunity to recognize our students and their extraordinary scholarly and academic accomplishments.”

The celebration coincides with the university’s Discovery Week, a week-long, university-wide showcase of programs, presentations and events to celebrate the depth and variety of extraordinary experiences available to UB students. This year’s lineup includes a broad array of offerings, from helping students navigate conflict, to sessions on global learning, entrepreneurship and graduate school, according to Mara Huber, associate dean for undergraduate research and experiential learning. A full schedule of Discovery Week activity can be found online.

The Celebration of Student Academic Excellence recognizes students’ ability to turn their academic success into awards, monetary scholarships and opportunities to continue educational pursuits at a national and international level.

Among the prestigious awards are the SUNY Chancellor's Awards for Student Excellence; UB Undergraduate Award for Excellence in Research, Scholarship and Creativity; and UB’s nominees for such national and international honors as the Marshall, Fulbright and Truman scholarships.

The event will include a performance, “Entrance,” choreographed and performed by senior dance major Haley D. Bjorn.
