UB faculty member Edward M. Bednarczyk has been elected president-elect of the American Pharmacists Association’s Academy of Pharmaceutical Research and Science (APRS) for 2017-18.

Bednarczyk, clinical associate professor and chair of the Department of Pharmacy Practice, School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, will be installed, along with other newly elected officers of the APRS and the Academy of Pharmacy Practice and Management (APPM), at the American Pharmacists Association’s 164th annual meeting and exposition being held in March in San Francisco.

The APRS focuses its work on the discovery, dissemination and application of research to improve patient health and serves pharmacists and those members who are involved in the pharmaceutical sciences.

A UB faculty member since 1993, Bednarczyk conducts research largely focused on the use of molecular imaging to explore drug effects; his clinical responsibilities are divided between nuclear medicine and neurology. He has served as chair of the Department of Pharmacy Practice since 2007.

He received a BS in pharmacy from UB in 1984, and completed a pharmacy practice residency at the Buffalo General Hospital in 1985. He earned a PharmD from the Medical University of South Carolina, followed by a fellowship in clinical cardiovascular pharmacology at Case Western Reserve University/University Hospitals of Cleveland.
