The recently concluded 2015-16 season at the Center for the Arts was the venue’s most successful in its 22-year history, with a record number of sold-out events and special recognition by Buffalo Spree as the magazine’s 2016 Best of WNY Winner for “Best Large Music Venue.”
The center’s season featured a diverse lineup of concerts, comedy, dance, speakers, international events, children’s shows, UB student productions and more. Sold-out engagements included “Weird Al” Yankovic, Bonnie Raitt, Lehrer Dance with 10,000 Maniacs, Chris Cornell, Colm Wilkinson, MythBusters Live, Sebastian Maniscalco, WYRK Fall Acoustic Show, Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood Live, Tedeschi Trucks Band and Aquila Theatre’s production of “Romeo and Juliet.”
Approximately 90,000 people attended CFA performances during the season.
“We have built an eclectic annual season of programs that is both an asset to the university and the community at large,” says Thomas Burrows, executive director of the Center for the Arts. “Our events complement the many other cultural and entertainment offerings in Western New York and we could not be more pleased with the response we have received.
“It is a testament to our talented and hard-working staff in all areas of our operation.”
For the second time, the CFA was honored as a Buffalo Spree Best of WNY Winner for “Best Large Music Venue.” The magazine’s “best of” list covers dining, theater, visual art, music, politics, sports, media and shopping, among others. The winners are selected using “a combination of public poll and expert panels,” according to the magazine.
Bookings for the CFA’s 2016-17 season are underway and will be announced this summer.
