Grammy Award winner Blues Traveler will kick off the inaugural UB Tailgate Concert Series with a performance at the Bulls’ football home opener against Stony Brook University on Sept. 14.

Each concert in the four-concert series will begin two hours before kickoff for every Saturday home football game this fall. The free concerts will be held in Stampede Square in the Stadium Parking Lot between the stadium and Millersport Highway.

In addition to Blues Traveler, acts performing in the series include rising country superstar Randy Houser (Sept. 28, University of Connecticut), two-time Grammy winner Cool and the Gang (Oct. 5, Homecoming and Family Weekend, Eastern Michigan) and contemporary swing revival band Big Bad Voodoo Daddy (Oct. 19, University of Massachusetts).

The Tailgate Concert Series is part of a new initiative by UB Athletics to improve the fan experience at the home football games this year.

Among the other additions to the home-game experience are an enhanced “Walk to Victory” by the football team, interactive fan activities, giveaways and the broadcast of a live radio pregame show courtesy of CBS Sports Radio THE FAN 1270 AM in Stampede Square.

“It’s truly all about game day this fall and we want to build a culture that celebrates the college football experience available right here in Western New York on the UB campus” says Director of Athletics Danny White. “The success of the summer concert series currently running here in our market, along with the national trends we evaluated, made adding these enhancements a major initiative to meet the expectations of our growing fan base.

“I believe the unique mix of national music acts, along with our family-friendly experience, will make the UB campus and Bulls’ football the perfect place to tailgate this fall,” White says.

UB faculty and staff have until Aug. 9 to take advantage of a special package on the purchase of football season tickets.

The package features one season ticket for Bulls football games, which includes seating in sections 101 and 102 in UB Stadium, plus a ticket in the Jim Kelly Club for the Bulls’ season finale on Nov. 29 against Bowling Green in Ralph Wilson Stadium. In addition, purchasers receive one day pass to Darien Lake, valid for Aug. 16, Aug. 17 or Aug. 18.

The cost of the special package is $30; the cost of a regular season ticket is $90.

Those interested should fill out the online form and a Bulls’ ticket representative will follow up.

For more information, call the ticket office at 645-6666.

White says he is confident that providing a neutral-site game at Ralph Wilson Stadium—“The Clash at the Ralph”—as well as the new game-day enhancements will make UB football “the must-have ticket for every college football fan in Western New York.”
