Johnstones to be honored at Newman convocation

The Newman Centers at UB will mark the opening of the 2014-15 academic year with the 38th annual Convocation and Liturgy of the Holy Spirit, to be held at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 7 in St. Joseph University Church, 3269 Main St., adjacent to the South Campus.

During the convocation, the Newman Award, the highest honor given by the Newman Centers, will be presented to D. Bruce Johnstone, SUNY Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus, and his wife, Gail Johnstone, for their dedication and service to higher education and Western New York.

D. Bruce Johnstone is a former chancellor of the SUNY system and University Professor Emeritus at UB who specialized in higher education finance and governance, and international comparative higher education while serving on the faculty of the Graduate School of Education.

Gail Johnstone is a former president and CEO of the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo.

A reception will follow the convocation.

All members of the campus community are invited to attend.
