The School of Social Work’s podcast series inSocialWork^SM—formerly known as Living Proof—has won a national award in the “Best Website” category of the National Association of Social Work (NASW) Media Awards.

“This marks the fifth year of our podcast series and we are truly honored to win this prestigious award from NASW,” says Tony Guzman, director of online programs in the School of Social Work and leader of the podcast series committee.

“inSocialWork^SM strives to provide interviews on both research and practice to the social work community. While social work can be about human interactions, interventions and rights, it is important to leverage technology, such as our podcast, to dispense cutting-edge information in a free format.”

Guzman gives special recognition to the hard work and leadership of Howard Doueck, professor emeritus who launched the podcast series, and to Dean Nancy Smyth.

“Dean Smyth’s vision and determination pushed this podcast forward to become what it is today,” says Guzman.

inSocialWork^SM is a biweekly podcast series featuring conversations with prominent social work professionals, interviews with cutting-edge researchers and information on emerging trends and best practices in the field of social work. 

The series website has more than 115 episodes in its archive. The podcast episodes have been downloaded more than 425,000 times from more than 50 countries, according to Guzman. Topics include trauma, human rights, veteran issues, evidenced-based practices and public policy, among many others. The inSocialWork podcast series topics can be used at agencies, practices and classrooms alike.

The National Association of Social Workers 2013 Media Awards recognize reporters, bloggers, columnists, television producers, movie directors and other media professionals who help raise awareness about the social work profession and issues important to social workers.
