The School of Law’s Center for the Advancement of Sport will examine the challenges COVID-19 presents to top collegiate and professional sports health professionals, administrators and athletes at a virtual roundtable discussion on Sept. 25.

“High Level Sports During a Pandemic” will take place from noon to 1 p.m. via Zoom. More information and registration can be found online.

The discussion will spotlight the legal, medical and administrative challenges faced by elite athletic programs as a result of COVID-19.

“As collegiate conferences such as the Big Ten and school districts across the country debate how and whether to return to play, the Center for the Advancement of Sport presents this unique opportunity to hear directly from the people involved in making those difficult decisions,” says center director Helen A. “Nellie” Drew.

“Join us for an insightful, informative and engaging expert discussion about one of the most crucial decisions ever confronted in the world of amateur athletics: whether and how to return to play in a pandemic.”

Serving on the panel will be Les Bisson, June A. and Eugene R. Mindell, MD, Professor and Chair of the Department of Orthopaedics at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences; Athletic Director Mark Alnutt; and Brian Bratta, associate athletic director for sports medicine and wellness services, and coordinator of UB Athletic’s COVID response.

The panel discussion is being held in conjunction with the UB Alumni Association and the UB Law Alumni Association.
