Phase I: Program Approach


Between January and June 2004, UB's Vice Presidents, Deans, and Vice Provosts led inclusive discussions with the university's faculty and staff to develop SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) analyses for each vice presidential, vice provostial, and decanal unit. They were discussed at an Institutional Planning retreat for UB's senior leadership on July 14, 2004.

Following this retreat, President Simpson charged two new committees, an Academic Planning Committee and an Academic Support Planning Committee. The Academic Planning Committee is focusing on programmatic planning within UB's schools and the development of strategic strengths, while the Academic Support Planning Committee is developing business and operational initiatives, an all-funds campus budget process, and a long-term facility and capital planning process. The work of both committees will culminate in an Institutional Master Plan. Underpinning the committees' work is a planning infrastructure that is comprised of resources, governance, decision making, and implementation.
