  • Architecture installation creates multispecies ‘lounge’ for people, pollinators

    "Pollinator Lounge" is a multispecies installation on South Campus, designed by architects Joyce Hwang and Nerea Feliz, featuring habitat boxes that promote urban biodiversity by providing shelter for pollinators and other local wildlife. The project invites people to connect with our nonhuman neighbors and emphasize sustainable urban design that supports biodiversity, resilience, and ecological awareness.

  • NEH to fund UB faculty member’s environmental film project

    Faculty member John Fiege has received a $75,000 National Endowment for the Humanities grant to develop "The Valley of Ashes," a documentary examining NYC's waste disposal issues and pathways to a zero-waste future. The film blends environmental history and media to challenge consumption and disposal habits, aiming to inspire sustainable change.

  • UB researcher co-founds venture to revolutionize companies’ materials usage

    materialsIN, co-founded by UB’s Krishna Rajan and entrepreneur E. Frits Abell, uses AI and machine learning to revolutionize materials discovery and manufacturing, helping companies improve efficiency and sustainability. Their platform reduces waste and optimizes processes, offering solutions that enhance product quality and lower costs across industries like semiconductors and electric vehicle batteries.

  • Exhibition examines intersection of waste, environment, human impact
    9/20/24

    "Runoff," an exhibition by eco-artist Christy Rupp, explores the impact of waste and human activity on the environment through sculptures made from discarded materials raising awareness about climate change, fossil fuel use, and the loss of habitats at the UB Anderson Gallery and the Buffalo Museum of Science.
