Technology reported that UB faculty, including Wenyao Xu, Jun Xia and Chi Zhou, have received two NSF grants, totaling $950,000, to prepare the next generation of the AI, cybersecurity and advanced manufacturing workforce.

Xia will assume the role on July 1, 2026. He succeeds Yun Wu, who has served as department chair since 2023. She will return to her faculty role as a professor.

The New York State School Board Association reported that a senior from Williamsville North High School worked alongside Jun Xia and other UB researchers to explore the use of lasers and AI to screen for breast cancer.
