Retention Goals
Understanding UB’s retention goals.
Retaining undergraduate students from their first to their second year is a critical measure of student success.
It is a strong indicator of UB’s support systems, campus climate and ability to deliver a high-quality education that meets students’ needs. Student persistence from the first to second year can impact student self-image and lifelong success, along with student and family financials.
A critical campus goal.
UB has set a goal of achieving a 91% retention rate by 2022 and a 93% rate by 2025.
It takes 42 students to raise the retention rate 1%.
UB needs to retain:
- 210 additional students to meet our goal for 2022.
- 294 additional students to achieve our goal for 2025.
Our Initiatives Need to Impact All Students
The numbers show that in fall 2018, students who left UB were:
- 238 female students
- 181 engineering students
- 144 College of Arts and Sciences students
- 142 underrepresented minorities
- 116 first-generation students
- 73 management students
- 18 Access to College Excellence students
UB's current retention rate is 86%. In order for UB to reach the goal of 91% retention by 2022, the university will need to retain an additional 210 students. In order to reach the goal of 93% by 2025, the university will need to retain an additional 294 students.
