Current and former students may have a need to update the name associated with their academic record. Typical reasons for a name change include marriage, divorce, naturalization and use of a variation of their name.

At UB, students may choose to use a name other than their legal name to identify themselves. The university will use a student’s preferred/chosen name when possible unless the student’s legal name is required by law. For identity verification purposes, students must use their legal last name.
