Everyday Health sought the expertise of Diana Wilkins in a report on whether patients should read their lab results before meeting with their doctor. Viewing test results without a health care provider to explain the meaning may create confusion for the majority of patients. “I love this practice, and I live in fear of it,” says Wilkins. “It’s great when patients are informed. However, labs may look like they’re outside of the normal range and still can be considered acceptable, leading to unnecessary concern.”
