The Buffalo News and multiple media outlets reported that Caroline Attardo Genco, a Buffalo native and provost at Tufts University, will be the 16th president of UB. Genco, who was appointed at Tuesday's meeting of the SUNY Board of Trustees, will assume the role Aug. 10. Genco said as a Buffalo native, the daughter of immigrants, and the first in her family to attend college and a SUNY undergraduate alumna, “I have an authentic understanding of how education transforms lives and the critical role that the SUNY system plays in the lives of New Yorkers.” Genco said under UB President Satish K. Tripathi, UB expanded its research innovation and academic programs and “has become a national leader in both.” She added: “This strong foundation will serve us well as we complete our journey toward becoming a pre-eminent top 25 public flagship university that is responsive to the rapidly evolving national and global ecosystem, and the state’s persistence as a beacon of what higher education stands for.”
