Consumers helped pay for tariffs. Will they get refunds?

Marketplace, which reaches more than 10 million listeners each week on more than 800 public radio stations nationwide, featured the expertise of legal scholar Christine Bartholomew in a report on how businesses are seeking $166 billion in tariff refunds after the Supreme Court ruled some of the Trump administration’s tariffs illegal. Some business are thinking about sharing their refund with their customers but they are worried this might spur class action lawsuits. “In class actions you have to be able to prove how the harm can be quantified across the class in a similar fashion,” said Bartholomew.
