The Atlantic features the expertise of Lora Park in an article about the impacts of financial strain on Gen Z, whom experts have found have started saving for future goals much earlier than previous generations. Park, who has studied the well-being of people who are particularly fixated on long-term goals, questions if Gen Z is benefitting from “delaying today for tomorrow.” She’s found that those focused on long-term goals tend to report feeling anxiety, guilt, and regret when doing anything other than working toward their narrow mission. And when they stake much of their self-worth on financial success, they tend to feel less autonomy, not more.
