Moderate, MAGA or progressive? Voters share picks for next presidential election

Voters say they favor moderates but don't always follow through when they arrive at the ballot box, said Neiheisel. “We have had a penchant in recent years for what's sometimes described as leapfrog representation, where you get one extreme, you don't really like it, you go to the other extreme,” he said. “And so, perhaps there is some kind of movement to settle in the middle.” But Neiheisel said moderates might sound better in the abstract than they do when the rubber meets the road.
