Self quotes Mark Hicar in an article about the uproar after the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (ACIP) voted to stop recommending the birth dose of the hepatitis B vaccine for newborns, which would prevent against future infections and cancer. Hicar recommends talking to your child’s pediatrician when you meet before your child’s birth or, if you don’t have that visit, having a conversation with your health care provider during your pregnancy. “You can review the details of why this is strongly recommended by groups who know the science behind it,” Hicar said. “This will continue to be strongly recommended by public health officers, pediatric, and infectious disease physician groups.”
