How satellites can help us conserve water

Vice Impact published a Q&A with UB's Estelle Chaussard, who describes how new satellite technology can be used to monitor reserves of underground water. These precious resources, found in aquifers, sustain human populations worldwide. "Areas that have minimal on-the-ground monitoring can be monitored with this satellite technique, and we can better understand how much water is being extracted from our aquifers — and that can inform policies for reducing pumping," said Chaussard, an assistant professor of geology.
