Gum disease tied to cancer risk in older women

An article in The New York Times reports on a new study by Jean Wactawski-Wende, dean of the School of Public Health and Health Professions, that found that periodontal disease in older women is associated with an increased risk for cancer. “We know that treating gum disease prevents tooth loss,” she said. “It could also be helpful in managing cancer and other systemic diseases. That’s a simple public health message.”
