An article on the front page of The Wall Street Journal about the creepy-clown epidemic spreading across the nation and the impact that the sightings of malevolent clowns are having on clown troupes interviews Andrew Stott, professor of English who studies entertainment culture and labels himself “a reluctant clown expert.” “We look at clowns and think ‘what drives you to dress up this way?’” he said. “It is a terrible libel on what they are doing, but we can’t help it, we are very suspicious of strangers dressing up and approaching children.” Stott also was quoted on the clown phenomenon in New Zealand’s Stuff.
