Influential Texas panel recommends halt to use of bite-mark evidence

A Reuters article reports the Texas Forensic Science Commission on Thursday recommended that bite-mark analysis not be admissible as evidence in courts, a decision that could lead judicial systems in other states to exclude it, too, and quotes Peter Bush, director of the UB South Campus Instrument Center and a forensic dentistry expert. “Today is the beginning of the end for the use of bite-mark analysis in courts all over the country,” he said. He also is quoted in articles that appeared in news outlet that include the Associated Press, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Yahoo News and ABC News.
