An article in USA Today about the growing number of Zika cases in the U.S., which has been confirmed in at least 13 states and Washington, D.C., quotes Jared Aldstadt, associate professor of geography. “There is a risk of transmission of Zika in the U.S., but all the evidence we have so far is it would be limited to the places where dengue (virus) has hit,” such as Florida and Hawaii and other places with tropical climates, he said. The article appeared on Gannett news outlets around the country, including WCSH-TV in Portland, Maine, KXTV-TV in Sacramento, WFAA-TV in Dallas and the Louisville Courier-Journal.
