A National Geographic article on society’s fear of Friday the 13th quotes Phillips Stevens Jr., associate professor of anthropology, who commented on the taboo associated with the number 13. Stevens, who was quoted from 2013, says: "It became extremely widespread through the Euro-American world, embedded in culture, [and] extremely persistent."
