UB's Satpal Singh on his meeting with Pope Francis

Satpal Singh, associate professor of pharmacology and toxicology, was a guest on CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360° show on Friday, talking about his participation in the interfaith service earlier that day with Pope Francis at the 9/11 Memorial. In New York City. Singh was a victim of anti-Sikh violence in India and thereafter became a leader in the Sikh religion and an advocate for peace; he is a past chairperson of the World Sikh Council. Cooper tweeted this about Singh’s participation: “You can’t conquer hate & violence with hate & violence,” Satpal Singh on being in @Pontifex’s interfaith service. Singh also authored an opinion piece on Religious News Service about his onstage appearance with Pope Francis. “I am honored to have been selected to share the stage with this great man,” he writes. “Although we do not share the same religious tradition, we both share a view on what it means to be a person of faith.”
