An article in New York Magazine about what happens when emergency medical technicians encounter dying patients and their families features research by Deborah Waldrop, professor of social work, who interviewed paramedics and EMTs before and after their shifts to ask them about their experiences with dying patients, encounters that were rife with emotional intensity and sometimes tension.
