Why do 40 Mass. high schools still have Native American mascots in 2015?

An article in the Boston Globe about the history of sports teams using Indian logos and names reports about 40 high schools in Massachusetts still use Native American mascots, nicknames and/or logos to represent their athletic teams, and quotes Wendy Quinton, assistant professor of psychology. “People will say, ‘Why now, where were the Native Americans before?’” she said. “But they’ve been protesting since the ’60s. Professional groups have spoken out against the mascots for decades.”
