Joining Forces–UB originated in a unique partnership between the UB School of Social Work (SSW) and School of Nursing (SON) in 2013, with a commitment to providing excellence in education and training for UB students and health care providers serving veterans and military families in our region.

  • The National Joining Forces Initiative

    Joining Forces–UB was inspired by the White House Joining Forces initiative. The Joining Forces initiative was created by First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden to mobilize all sectors of society to honor and support military men and women, as well as their families, and to offer them the opportunities and services they deserve.

    The Joining Forces–UB team is made up of dynamic faculty, staff, and students who are committed to excellence in veteran and military family care.
  • Our Advisory Council

    The Joining Forces–UB Advisory Counci is made up of leaders and activists in the Western New York veteran community, alumni and faculty representatives, Veterans Administration (VA) representatives, and professionals working with veterans and/or military family members. The Council provided important support and guidance in beginning the Joining Forces-UB project, creating the curriculum and training program, and consulting on research.  Many of the Council members continue to serve in a supportive and consulting capacity.
