January 2026 Announcing the 2026 Applied Crystallization Workshops!

  • Do you want to dive into biomolecular crystallization?  Apply to participate in one of our on-site, hands-on Crystallization Workshops hosted at the National Crystallization Center at the University at Buffalo.
  • The workshop will focus on practical aspects of optimizing macromolecular crystals for structure solution. Workshops will include tutorials on designing grid screens using multiple crystallization formats, seeding approaches, setting up lipidic cubic phase (LCP) experiments for membrane protein crystallization, and cryoprotection and crystal harvesting. Participants will be encouraged to set up experiments to optimize crystals of their own proteins using cutting-edge crystallization equipment and crystal imagers equipped with SONICC. Participants will learn best practices for harvesting and shipping their crystals for data collection at synchrotrons.
    • What? A 2-day macromolecular crystallization workshop designed to immerse you in crystal growth methods to jumpstart your structural biology efforts.
    • Who? This workshop is open to researchers at all levels, including students, postdocs and PIs
    • Where? On-site at our state-of-the-art crystallization facility in Buffalo, NY.
    • When? Applicants must be available to travel on-site to Buffalo, NY for one of two sets of dates:
      • * April 23rd & 24th (application deadline 2/23)
      • * June 2nd & 3rd (application deadline 4/27)
  • New in 2026!  We are partnering with NIH-supported synchrotron facilities for data collection workshops!  Interested in attending sending the crystals to a synchrotron to learn how to collect and process data?  We can help!
    • * RapiData at SSRL May 4-9
    • * Data Collection and Processing Boot Camp at NECAT June/July
  • Workshop spaces are limited and applicants will be selected based on suitability of project and responses to this application.  Apply hereThe Applied Crystallization Workshop is free for participants. Travel scholarships for participants for partial travel support is available for researchers at US-based universities.
  • Workshop supported by NIH R24GM141256.
  • Thank you to our sponsors: Formulatrix, Hampton Research, Hudson Robotics, MiTeGen, SPTLabtech, Swissci
