Rhodes Scholarship

This award requires university nomination or interview and cannot be applied to directly. Students must work with the Office of Fellowships and Scholarships and meet university deadlines.

Overview

The Rhodes Scholarships are the oldest and most celebrated international fellowship awards in the world. Each year 32 students from the U.S. are selected as Rhodes Scholars. Rhodes Scholars are chosen for their outstanding scholarly achievements, character, and commitment to others and to the common good. They are also chosen based on their potential for leadership in whatever domains their careers may lead.

Deadline

  • Campus Deadline: Aug. 1
  • External Deadline: The first Wednesday of October each year.

Eligibility Requirements

  • The Rhodes Scholarship is open to graduating seniors or recent alumni, in all disciplines.
  • Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or a U.S. permanent resident.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 but not yet 24 years of age.
  • In addition to scholarly achievement, applicants must clearly demonstrate leadership capacity and commitment to the common good.

Selection Process

Students who complete all application materials will be considered for nomination to the Rhodes Scholarship. A faculty committee will select UB’s nominees and provide the institutional nomination.
