GEM Fellowship Program

The GEM Fellowship is a graduate fellowship program for eligible underrepresented domestic students who will pursue graduate study at the University at Buffalo or at another GEM institution.

The University at Buffalo is a member in the National GEM Consortium, a network of top universities, research institutions, leading corporations and national laboratories that enables highly qualified students from underrepresented communities to pursue graduate education in engineering and science. This fellowship program is supported via a partnership between the College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences and the National GEM Consortium.

• Be a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident.
• Identify as Black, Hispanic/Latino, American Indian, Native Alaskan, Native Hawaiian, and/or Native Pacific Islander.
• Be a science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) major.
• Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

In addition to the above requirements:

• Students applying for UB's MS Engineering and Science Fellowship Program must be a senior or graduate of an accredited engineering or computer science program at time of application.
• Students applying for UB's PhD Engineering and Science Fellowship must be a senior, Master's student, or graduate of an accredited engineering or applied science program at time of application.
