UB’s annual economic impact includes more than $348.2 million in research spending, most of it from federal agencies like the National Institutes of Health.

As a research university, UB is a major source of innovation in Western New York. The university leverages its strengths in knowledge generation to yield tangible economic results. The transfer of new technology to the private sector benefits the public while providing opportunities for further development and commercial applications of our researchers’ work.

On our campuses, UB’s research funding is responsible for more than 3,000 jobs, including faculty researchers, technical staff, research assistants and administrative staff.
