Wooden structures created by freshman architecture students as part of a yearlong design-build studio are on display at Artpark in Lewiston.

This fund helps attract and retain top students by offering scholarships throughout the School of Architecture and Planning.

Student scholarships are a key factor in attracting students to UB, and supporting them during their time at the School of Architecture and Planning.

Through this fund, we can provide more scholarships to more students, as we work together to educate, train and inspire the next generation of leading architects and planners.

The Food Systems Planning and Healthy Communities Lab, housed in the School of Architecture and Planning at UB, is dedicated to research that critically examines the role of local government policy in facilitating equitable, healthy, and sustainable communities. The Lab is especially focused on community food systems as a space and lever for creating positive change in our backyard (Buffalo) and in the Global South.
Sydney Gross Memorial Fund

Sydney Gross dreamed of becoming an architect. She had completed her first year of the program at the UB School of Architecture and Planning when she died following a car accident on July 24, 2009.
Affordable Housing Initiative Fund

Although the City of Buffalo has experienced a resurgence, it has inadequate high-quality housing that is affordable to a significant portion of its population. Like many cities, affordable housing in Buffalo has been heavily dependent on the availability of investments through low-income housing tax credits, the future availability of which is uncertain.
Center for Architecture and Situated Technologies Fund

The Center for Architecture and Situated Technologies (CAST) focuses on the evolving and growing implications of new technologies and the built environment. Our project-based research addresses the material, social, cultural and political implications for architecture and urbanism of mobile and embedded computing, environmental sensing, responsive systems and advanced digital fabrication techniques.

The Environmental Design Research Association (EDRA) hosted its 55 annual conference in Portland this past June. Shreya Jaiswal, 2023 alumna of UB’s Master of Architecture program, along with professors Martha Bohm, Korydon Smith, and Edward Steinfeld, received this year’s Best Paper Award. The paper, “Sensory Engagement and Spatial Harmony: Unveiling the Role of Fire in Multisensory Design,” was a culmination of Jaiswal’s thesis research with Bohm, Smith, and Steinfeld and selected out of 380 presenting authors.
UB architect and students win Architizer A+ Award

The Larkinville location of Blue Table Chocolates, designed by Arch & Type in collaboration with UB architecture students, has won the Architizer A+ Teamwork award. Led by Arch & Type founder Seth Amman and designer Adam McCullough, both UB alumni, the shop at 799 Seneca St. in Buffalo features a unique design with a sloping, gold-painted ceiling that mimics melted chocolate.

UB architect's design chosen for 5/14 memorial

Design holds significant power to inspire hope, healing, and remembrance. UB architect Jin Young Song, alongside partner Douglass Alligood, hopes their memorial concept "Seeing Us" will provide this for Buffalo. The design was chosen by the 5/14 Memorial Commission to honor the victims of the racially motivated mass shooting on May 14, 2022, at a Tops grocery store, which resulted in the deaths of 10 Black individuals and injuries to three others.

Big Projects Studio—A Catalyst for Conversation
