A. Scott Weber, vice president for student life, has been named interim provost and executive vice president for academic affairs, President Satish K. Tripathi announced today.

Weber will serve as interim provost until a permanent successor is named to replace Charles F. “Chip” Zukoski, who is leaving UB to become provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at the University of Southern California on Oct. 1.

Weber will continue in his role overseeing student life at UB while serving as interim provost.

A national search to identify Zukoski’s successor will begin shortly, Tripathi told employees in a university-wide email.

Weber has served as vice president for student life since January 2017. Prior to that, he was senior vice provost for academic affairs, vice provost and dean of undergraduate education, and chair of the Department of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering in the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.

“Throughout Scott’s tenure at UB, he has led efforts to ensure that our undergraduate and graduate students have a transformative education with opportunities to engage in distinctive research, creative and public service activities that exemplify a premier public research university,” Tripathi said.

“I am grateful to Scott for his willingness to serve as interim provost and to continue serving as vice president for student life during this short period of transition.”
