A central challenge facing medicine today is the development of strategies for organ regeneration and repair, and an important next step for regenerative medicine is to understand the mechanisms by which mammals naturally use stem cells to renew and heal tissues. In this seminar, Ophir Klein, MD, PhD, will present data from his recent work focusing on stem cells in teeth, the oral mucosa, and the gastrointestinal tract as examples of organs that undergo constant renewal. Throughout this seminar, he will touch on how the power of stem cells can be harnessed to treat human disease.

Dr. Klein is a physician scientist and an expert in craniofacial biology and medical genetics. He is currently the lead investigator of several research awards and serves as a mentor for the University of California, San Francisco’s CTSI Mentor Development Program.
