The number of Western New Yorkers who have received the COVID-19 vaccine continues to rise, and that is great news for everyone. However, easily finding and booking appointments is still an obstacle for some. That is why the University at Buffalo launched WNY Vaccine Hound, a website to help people find available vaccination appointments across Western New York.
The community resource lists vaccination appointment openings in Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Niagara, and Erie counties. While the volunteer-run site does not actually schedule or manage appointments, it highlights opportunities for vaccination in a simple, easy-to-navigate fashion. Occasionally, the location you search may show no available appointments due to high demand. However, updates occur multiple times a day, so keep checking.
To get started, users can select their county or click on “Find a COVID-19 Vaccine.” Within seconds, a list of available appointments will appear, with the following information:
After clicking “Book an Appointment,” users will head directly to a page with additional details and instructions. The next step is confirming the location and time, followed by an opportunity to enter personal details and finalize the booking.
Vaccine Hound also features a waitlist page with a list of providers offering a waitlist for when vaccines are available, along with links to additional vaccine-related resources.
As explained in a UBNow feature, the website was developed and launched by faculty, students and staff from UB’s School of Management, with assistance from the UB Information Technology group and University Communications.
