Ensuring that findings make their way to the care of patients is an essential element of the research process. Highlighting why that is so important, and how to best move research results into real-world settings, is a focus of the University at Buffalo Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI) Dissemination and Implementation Science Core.
The core will outline this topic and its work at the CTSI Open Research Office Zoom session at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 30. Titled “Introduction to Dissemination and Implementation Science and Available Resources at UB.” Register here to watch live on Zoom.
Presenters for the September 30 session are CTSI Dissemination and Implementation Science Core Co-directors Ranjit Singh, MBBChir, MBA, Associate Professor, Vice Chair for Research, and Director, Primary Care Research Institute, Department of Family Medicine, Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, and Bonnie Vest, PhD, Research Associate Professor, Department of Family Medicine, Jacobs School.
The session will introduce the basics of dissemination and implementation science, keys for researchers and research teams, and implications for the public.
“Dissemination and implementation science is a way to help facilitate the translation of research findings into the real world to improve health,” Vest explains. “Having a basic understanding of dissemination and implementation concepts and the processes and factors that impact implementation can help researchers consider some of these factors sooner, and hopefully maximize the translational potential of their work.”
Singh says, “This Open Research Office session is another opportunity to help get the word out about our resources and encourage UB researchers to think more about dissemination and implementation and how it may apply to their work. On September 30, we will start simply and explain the importance of the field. We will also provide a few examples for people to grab on to, so that they can see how the concepts might apply to their work.”
Vest adds that those ready for next steps after the session can watch additional recorded workshop sessions on the CTSI YouTube channel and reach out to the Dissemination and Implementation Science Core for help. “We are happy to consult with you, grant you access to our online toolkits, and help you identify additional resources,” she says.
CTSI Director Sanjay Sethi, MD, SUNY Distinguished Professor, Senior Associate Dean for Clinical and Translational Research, Jacobs School, says the upcoming Open Research Office is formatted similarly to other interactive CTSI sessions, and therefore makes for a robust learning experience.
“Support does not conclude at the end of the session; it is ongoing, and always available for researchers and research staff,” Sethi says. “Looking back through the last four years of Open Research Office Zooms, there is real variety to the topics covered. That has been a goal for our CTSI educational offerings, and so has the ability to watch on demand, whenever one has open time.”
