Our History
In August 2015, the University at Buffalo was awarded its first Clinical and Translational Science Award from NIH, with additional awards following in 2020 and 2025. CTSI Director Timothy F. Murphy, MD, reflects on a decade of the CTSI and considers 10 key themes — including connecting with our community, pilot studies supporting innovative research, preparing the next generation of translational science leaders, and looking toward the future. Dr. Murphy, who retired on October 6 after 44 years at UB, has served the university in multiple roles, with an accomplished research agenda and a deep commitment to working with the community.

Dr. Murphy's leadership has been critical to securing three Clinical and Translational Science Awards from the NIH National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences, which established the CTSI at UB.
