This grant helped a new research cluster team develop a website, conference and other resources to significantly strengthen the efforts to prevent and interrupt drinking and driving in Western New York.

Drinking and driving is one of leading causes of accidents in United States (10,322 people were killed in alcohol-impaired driving crashes in U.S. in 2012). An interdisciplinary research cluster team in Western New York, with members from two different universities, was proposed to focus on drinking and driving interruption and prevention. Objectives of this cluster team and its proposed activities were to provide academic researchers and practitioners in practice with good opportunities to work together, and help researchers and students in different areas (e.g., system science, computer vision technology, alcohol addiction, public policy, social network, traffic accidents, epidemiology etc.) to collaborate together. The activities of the cluster team involved: 1) a local conference in drinking and driving interruption and prevention, 2) speakers seminars, and 3) face-to-face and online discussion forums for academic researchers, practitioners in practice and students.
