BUFFALO, N.Y. – Sixty of Western New York's best and brightest high school students will compete in BEAM TREK, an all-day, brain-teasing race on the University at Buffalo's North (Amherst) Campus on Saturday, May 15, 2010.

Best time for media: 4 p.m. when teams of students will participate in the day's final event, a fuel cell car race around an obstacle course outside of Room 104 in Knox Hall.

BEAM TREK is an annual Star Trek-themed event during which faculty from UB's School of Engineering and Applied Sciences challenge teams of Western New York high school students to complete a broad range of engineering tasks.

UB's BEAM is a cooperative educational enrichment program of UB Engineering that prepares inner-city, minority, female and other under-represented students for careers in science, engineering, and technology through after-school and summer programs.
