Department of Chemistry
Professor and Henry M. Woodburn Endowed Chair of Chemistry, Diana Aga, PhD, is a globally recognized leader in environmental analytical chemistry whose research contributions have fundamentally changed our understanding of the fate, transport, treatment and effects of emerging contaminants in the environment. Her significant studies have detected pharmaceuticals and personal care products, pesticides and industrial chemicals in the waters, and fish and wildlife of the Great Lakes region and around the world. A prolific scholar whose research has been supported by more than $18 million in federal and state funding, she has published over 180 refereed papers and edited two books. Dr. Aga has received a 2021-22 Fulbright Global Scholar Award to support her research on environmental antimicrobial resistance at the Catholic University of Portugal—Porto and the University of the Philippines Diliman.
Department of Finance
Former president of the Korea-America Finance Association, Sahn-Wook Huh, PhD, associate professor of finance, is a highly regarded scholar in asset pricing, market microstructure, evaluation of mutual/hedge fund performance, and empirical corporate finance. His research has been supported by numerous grants, including the Early Researcher Award from the Ontario Provincial Government and the SSHRC Strategic Grant from the Canadian Federal Government. His scholarship appears in top-tier academic journals. Eight of his research articles won the Best Paper Awards at the Financial Management Association and other international conferences. Dr. Huh has several years of experience in the banking industry and with the Korean Ministry of Finance. In 2021, Dr. Huh received the Fulbright Canada Distinguished Research Chair in Entrepreneurship at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada.
Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences
Fellow of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists, Robert Straubinger, PhD, UB Distinguished Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, is an internationally recognized leader in cancer drug delivery and therapeutics. His scholarly contributions in nanoparticle drug delivery and proteomics—the study of proteins’ role in physiological and pathological processes—have significantly impacted the understanding of, and approach to, treating various cancers. Dr. Straubinger’s current research focuses on improving the therapy of pancreatic cancers by targeting both tumor cells and non-cancerous cells within tumors, which improves nanoparticle delivery of chemotherapeutic drugs. His research has led to nearly 100 widely cited publications in high-impact journals and 10 patents. Dr. Straubinger will travel to Belfast, Northern Ireland in spring 2022, where he will hold the Fulbright-Queen’s University Belfast Visiting Professorship.
